I’ve been reflecting on what is the primary source of happiness or pleasure?
You hear people talk about “my greatest desire is for there to be peace on earth”. What about Joy? Can’t Joy be a greater goal than peace? After all if everyone were joyful wouldn’t that also bring about an end to war? With joy comes fulfillment of desire or ultimate state of happiness? Can one be filled with joy and not be peaceful and serene? I think the two states are co-existing. If one is filled with joy then one must also be filled with peace/serenity. The two states are co-existing.
Is it Joy/bliss or is it peace/serenity? Which comes first: the chicken or the egg?
First I think it is important to define happiness and pleasure, its sources and its degrees.
Happiness means a state of contentment or satisfaction with one’s journey in life, having found the meaning of one’s life and one’s purpose.
I don’t want to confound or confuse happiness with pleasure.Pleasure is a temporary state of sense fulfillment and endocrine excretion which has as its result the responding to satisfying of wants and desires.
Happiness is not associated with wants or desires but is a state of fulfillment which is separate from action or accomplishment of objectives. Happiness in this case is a combination of joy/bliss and peace/serenity. It is a state of ‘grace’ which one is in when one has confirmed one’s identity as ‘soul-being’ and not just as physical mind/brain within a body.
When I speak of peace/serenity I am referring to a state of homeostasis or balance in one’s four bodies: physical, emotional, mental, and etheric or spiritual bodies.
This state of peace/serenity can manifest as bliss or unity with the universe or it can also manifest as complete abandon to universal forces over which we have no control.
This state of peace/serenity can be combined with a state of excitement or exhilaration which is derived from the limbic region and adds a heightened sense of wellbeing.
The opening of the chakras to peace/serenity state is achieved through meditation, achieving emptiness of one’s inner sanctuary space/energy meridian channels. One cannot fill a vessel which is already full. One must empty oneself of thoughts and emotions in order to achieve a state of graceful serenity and emotional bliss.
When one speaks of achieving peace or joy as a state one may conclude that this achievement requires some action. In fact, it doesn’t. Achieving a state of peace or joy is the result of a state of being, not a state of action.
Peace does not arise from joy but joy arises from state of peace. The state of peaceful serenity arises from emptying one’s sanctuary of thoughts, attachments, and cravings and allowing love to fill the heart and sanctuary.
It is once the sanctuary is filled with Love and Peace that Joy can enter to fill it with bliss. Think of Joy as electricity and Bliss as the electric jolt which one receives when one is exposed to a physical jolt of electricity. The joy/Bliss contains the etheric equivalent to endorphin emotional intensity of dopamine or serotonin.
Imagine Peace as being the air which fills our Sanctuary which is the balloon.
Once our balloon is filled with Peace we can then colour the air within with Joy. Actually imagine that the air which is Peace is already coloured with Joy so that when we fill our Sanctuary with Peace and Love it already contains Joy.
