The purpose of mental illness


Too often when faced with someone with mental illness we rush to judgment and close our hearts rather than open our hearts with compassion and understanding that the individual is suffering and manifesting fear and confusion.

Eckhart Tolle asked about the purpose of mental illness made me reflect on the nature of consciousness, of each human being a part of the ‘one’ universal consciousness or conscience or cosmic awareness. And how each being relates to the changing nature of society and of the planet’s evolution is reflected by actions which may appear to be insane, like killing or enslaving another human being because we can’t cope with change, because we can’t adapt quickly enough. Sometimes people are mind-controlled by their nation or state and told that it is ok to kill others because the state or nation is threatened. It is a taking of the personal psychosis to the level of institutional legitimization of violence and killing a part of our self. It’s like deciding to cut off one’s arm because it is not perceived as being useful, appropriate, or necessary.
