Discernment is a great achievement, to intuitively know how to be compassionate with detachment, and when attachment contributes to grief and suffering. The ability to detach from attachments which contribute to suffering requires the belief in Oneness and inter-connectedness and impermanence.
The deluded belief in separateness and ego-dominance( permanence) creates isolation, grief and excessive pain and suffering.
Discernment is a virtue, which sets the stage for accurate perception and correct expression. It is the foundation of the eight-fold path which includes correct perception, thought, actions, and lifestyle. The removal of inappropriate and unwholesome actions from our behaviours is the consequence of proper discernment.
One of the greatest life lessons is the learning to discern the boundary between desire and craving; between compassionate empathy and emotional co-dependency.
The presence of suffering in our lives results from attachment to thoughts and emotions which result from attachment, cravings, and loss.
Learning to remain empathetic yet detached in the face of abandonment, rejection, and loss is the principal teaching of this and every lifetime.
Once we have learned this lesson we are ready to ascend to greater levels of awareness and cosmic consciousness and entrusted with greater contributions of service to Humanity.
Discernment cannot be taught, it must be experienced and practiced.
If one examines the infinity symbol the twisted circle into two apparent halves symbolizes the spiritual life and the physical life and the intersection of the two apparent halves is the transition zone we name physical birth and death.
