So What now?

December brings with it the prospect of family gatherings, too much food for many fortunate enough to have a table of plenty, and the excesses of abundance flowing out from everyone through light-hearted conversation and expressions of splendour with the seasons’ delight.
Nay is there anyone who wants to play Scrooge or say Humbug to the requests for charity and goodwill to all men.
This is a time of year when we give thanks for gratitude and abundance, for acts of goodwill and charity.
This is an occasion to open our hearts even wider and make gifts of love and sharing with those less fortunate.
Good fortune is an element of being-ness which escapes many during economic hardship and unemployment.
My heart goes out with compassion to those who are suffering the slings and arrows of hardship and misfortune during this festive period. How difficult it is to tell one’s spouses and children that there is no coal for the fireplace or gifts to put under the tree.
For those with children or without them, the emphasis on love, sharing, and Oneness may be present or it many be lacking.
For many the emphasis is materialistic and centers around the physical gifts, toys, both for children and adults, and around the fleeting passage of quick entertainment experiences such as a ‘good ole hockey game’ or a game of poker.
The events focus on drinking alcohol to excess, smoking, gambling and carousing in endorphin-oriented activities, with nary a concern for the needs of the spirit with nourishment of sacred music and community-oriented sharing activities.
However this year, there is much want for food and jobs, and the Cancer Industry fundraisers are everywhere to be found and seen begging for our hard-earned pre-tax dollars to feed the medical behemoth owing to the exponential rise in incidences of cancer of every kind.
Is this one of the consequences of the industrial pollution which is causing the global warming and infecting Mother Earth with poisons a plenty coming back full circle to consume its own children?
I believe that emphasis must be placed on opposing the Conservative political agenda which ignores the moral imperative of Kyoto and wishes to stand alone and do nothing because the larger polluters like the USA and China are more materialistic and capitalistic, imperialistic and separatist than we are; and are doing almost nothing to stop or slow global warming and its impending negative consequences for Humanity and all living beings.
Spirit yearns for purity and soul yearns for clarity of mind and openness of heart to all. This is a time for greatly needed ‘accurate perception’ and ‘correct expression’, melding generosity and honesty with non-injury and non-lying about the state of affairs which surround us.
Our current politicians are preaching a politic of ‘hiding their heads in the sand’ while the globe crashes around us.
The Great Magicians of History have been the spiritual transformers who used parable and simple truths to teach the masses that there is a ‘better way’, to relieving pain and suffering through relinquishing material attachments and seeking spiritual solace through giving and acts of service.
Caring for others nourishes the soul and builds positive karma. God knows we all need to erase past lives negative karma.
Our legacy will be the extent to which we have added to the clarity on earth and have relieved others’ suffering. How will we measure up when our time to transition comes?
